In a society so heavily focused on excess and growth, sustainability is becoming increasingly important yet all the more difficult to accomplish.

I have recently found myself faced with a certain degree of internal conflict based on my own contribution to a sustainable future, which brings me to the writing of this blog post.

Being human and naturally wanting to match those around me, it takes a conscious effort to remain true to my values of wanting to use the time I have been given to create a positive impact on the world around me. I have recently found that the decisions making up my daily life and activities unconsciously do not reflect these values completely, which left me with a sense of feeling lost and pushing me down an even deeper rabbit hole.

It was in this moment that I recognized that I cannot be insentivised to make decisions for the greater good of my planet or humanity, it is a personal choice giving me a sense of purpose, and I would hope that society and the institutions behind it will support me in living in this way rather than pushing me towards a lifestyle of excess and wastefulness which leaves me feeling empty and wanting more.

Sustainable living is beneficial not only to the environment but also to our personal values. Living sustainably involves taking into consideration the impact our decisions have on the environment, and making conscious choices that will help reduce our negative impact, even if only so slightly. This means being mindful of how we buy and consume products, reducing our waste, and choosing renewable energy sources. By making these changes, we can help decrease our negative environmental footprint.

On a personal level, living sustainably helps to promote positive values. Living sustainably teaches us to be mindful of our actions and how they affect the environment and society. We learn to be mindful of our resources, and to use them responsibly while making conscious decisions about our lifestyles. We also become more conscious of our carbon emissions and strive to reduce them. Over time this becomes a habit and our existence becomes selfless.

By living sustainably, we become more mindful of our own values and how they influence our decisions. We learn to prioritize the needs of the environment and those around us, and to make decisions based on our values rather than what is convenient or what is popular. This seems like a sacrifice at the start, but it is my recipe to success. Success measured by a feeling of accomplishment and feeling significant and kind, while competing with nobody but who I was yesterday.

I really believe that everyones desire is to feel significant and worthy of recognition, but society seems to be pushing humanity to achieve these desires in the wrong places.

In order to bring about change in a society built on excess, the importance of sustainability and personal values must be recognized. It is our responsibility to be mindful of our actions, and to strive to make the world a better place. It is up to us to make conscious decisions leading to a more sustainable future and hopefully embedding change in the greater society.
